Treating Toenail Fungus With Baking Soda

Nail fungus is generally caused when fungus grows beneath your nails. While it is likely to affect both toes and fingers, it is more common on toenails because of regular warmth and moist environments that they are exposed to. Infections of nails caused by fungus should be addressed at the earliest so that proper treatment can be given. Because the infection is contagious, it can start spreading to different parts of the body, as well.

The infection starts with discoloration of nails, leading to various symptoms, which are uncomfortable and unpleasant. If you diagnosed early, fungal infections affecting the nails can be treated successfully at home with simple solutions like baking soda.

Washing and Cleaning

Before you start the treatment with baking soda, wash and clean your hands with a mild soap and water. Use warm water to avoid any more infectious attacks. Pat dry and wipe your hands with a clean towel.

Prepare the Mix

Your next step is to prepare the mix. Mix 2 parts of baking soda with 1 part of water in a dish. In most of the vases, 1 tablespoon of water will be needed with 2 tablespoons of baking soda. The blend should be thick. Mix them and make a thick paste.

Application

Once your mix is prepared, you must cover the affected nails with this paste, using a small paintbrush or cotton swab. Let it set for about 10 minutes. You must ensure that the paste goes beneath the nails and reaches its sides too. Do not forget the nail bed.

Rinsing

After keeping the past for about 10 to 15 minutes, you must rinse it off with water. You can use warm water for rinsing. Now, you have to pat your nail dry so that the area is not moist or damp. Repeat this procedure twice a day until all the fungus is killed.

You will understand that the fungus is killed when your nails get back the normal thickness and color. It may take some time for this to happen, ranging from a couple of days to few weeks. You have to be patient. In some cases, you nails may fall off. There’s nothing to worry about it, as this is a very normal phenomenon when your nails fungus is being treated.

Other than being less expensive, baking soda is also non-toxic in nature. Thus, it does not cause any side effects. You can use it for treating nail fungus without about its probable side effects.
